For my FOTD, I:

Base:

1. Moisturized and primed with Cetaphil UVA/UVB Defense Facial Moisturizer with SPF 50 (it stings, but it's sticky).

2. Dabbed MAC Cream Color Base in Fawntastic atop cheek bones, along nose bridge, and line along forehead above the peak of eyebrows.

3. Smoothed on custom-blend of moisturizer with Dermatologica treatment foundation in Shade #5

4. Blended upside down, corners-out right triangles to my undereyes with LORAC Coverup in C5.

Eyes:

5. Primed eyelids with MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ocher.

6. Dusted MAC eye shadow in Bamboo all over the lid: eyelid and browbone.

7. Fluffed MAC eye shadow in Charcoal Brown (Cork if you're lighter-skinned) into my crease, blending into the rest of the eyelid.

8. Lined my lashline with MAC eye shadow in Carbon.

9. Traced along the upper lashline and outer third of the lower lashline with Coastal Scents Gel Liner in Deep Plum.

10. Curl lashes (MAC eyelash curler if you have rounder eyes, Shu Uemura or Shiseido eyelash curler if you have flatter eyes) and apply a lengthening mascara (I used L'Oreal Double Extend with the red tube)

11. Fill in brows (I used Maybelline Define-A-Brow in Medium Brown).

Cheeks:

12. Blended MAC Cream Blush in Ladyblush on cheekbones.

Lips:

13. Primed lips with SoftLips in Cool Cherry.

14. Dabbed MAC Cream Color Base in Fawntastic atop the upper lip line, concentrating toward the bottom of the philtrum.

15. Finished with Coastal Scents Lip Smacks in Pep Pink.

Yay! I wish I could fit 'em, because they're so pretty for warm weather. I'll likely wear em with some cork platforms or wood heels, because I am so short.

Have you ever painted a room?

When I was 16, after my dad left, my mom felt like changing up the place. She called my aunt and her girlfriend and we painted the walls dark green (living room) and light moss green (dining area, bedroom). You could actually see the line of demarcation at the door.

Weekly goals:

Mood:

A tad bit cranky a second ago (my mom is getting on my nerves, as usual when we're both under the same roof during waking hours for extended periods of time), but I heard the new Jared Leto cover of Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance," and it's absolutely hilarious! I can listen to his roar in the intro on repeat. Perez must've been in desperate need for a karma lift to compliment it, cuz this song is horrible!

Describe your favorite bag and why you love it.

My Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Mini bag in black. It's huge for me, but it's proportional to how it's supposed to be on a normal 5'4 woman. Jeannot got it for me for my 21st birthday. I love it because of (his sacrifice for his retail job,) its classic, structured shape, the large size (I can put my whole makeup bag plus some skin/hair samples, comb, my sunglasses, my fatty blackberry, and yet more), the canvas interior is easy to clean, and the soft leather in a deep black. It even has feet so that the bottom to minimize actually touching the floor!

Popcorn-flavored jelly beans — yay or nay?

Wth? Nay! I hate jelly beans and popcorn!

What makes up the makeup in your five-minute makeup routine?

Smashbox Photofinish SPF 15 primer, custom-mixed Dermatologica treatment foundation, LORAC concealer, random silica powder (it moves on its own!--it's so finely ground), nude eyeshadow, black eyeliner, waterproof mascara, and cream blush. I'll add the lipstick/liner during transportation.

Nothing yet, but I’ll be doing my routine.

When did you realize you were officially a grownup?

I felt grown-up for a moment, when I lived on my own in Rohnert Park for a few months. The experience itself, when you've got a low-paying job with very few hours to work in a nowhere town, and the bills just build up, is humbling at the least.

Were you stoked or annoyed to get your first bra?

LoL, bras are still optional, haha

Your sweetest pet?

Billee!! He's a cockatiel at my dad's house. I hadn't seen him since I was 16 when my parents began the divorce settlement and he was trying to lower how much child support he had to pay. Billee was confused when he saw me, and he would lower his head to get his neck feathers fluffed for a long time, raise his head, come back down, and then raise his head promptly, like he didn't know when he'd see me again. I had Billee on my shoulder that whole November weekend.

Outfit:

grey tunic under my magenta Snoopy hoodie, over--get this--my WHITE SCRUBS. I KNEW they were going to come in useful someday, for laundry when all my jeans are to be washed!

Weekly goals:

Keep the home clean, not break anything, eat healthy, and get back to that NCLEX studying!

Preview: CG Lashblast Fusion

I loved how LashBlast Volume (original LashBlast) brought out the lashes I never knew I had, and I hadn't tried Lasthblast Length. All I know is, I absolutely HATED (Oh, how I hate the word 'hate') the brush because I would get it on my eyelid (my darned dainty Asian lashes). Unfortunate for me, the Fusion will be using the Lashblast Volume brush.

World-renowned makeup artist Pat McGrath would layer Lashblast Length followed by Lashblast Volume for runway shows. She devised Lashblast Fusion to save on time-pressed steps.

Lashblast Fusion hits stores April 8, 2010.

MAC Cream Colour Base in Fawntastic: Before applying foundation, I apply Fawntastic to my inner canthus, brow bone, and top of my cheekbones. Done! I look instantly awake and ethereal.

Weekly goals:

Learn to take things as they come, study for NCLEX, and work on my growing tummy (yuck) with a healthy diet and mild exercise!

Something you like about your job?

Back when I was at 19th, lunch was my MOST favorite part. I loved delivering food trays in the dining area, and the way the patients' faces lit up when they got their food the way they wanted it (a straw in the milk carton, dessert placed on the side they could see). I loved seeing the usual patients are lined up along the hallway with their bed tables in front of them, the Tagalog chatter and the following chorus of laughter from the CNAs feeding them, and, at exactly 12 pm, all of the TVs on one side of the hallway are tuned to Wowowee playing Willie's "Ikaw Na Nga."

What shoes are you wearing today?

Only socks!

Black scoopneck tee over light-blue skinny jeans, and a grey knit hoodie (and the socks!).

Weekly goals:

To study for NCLEX, catch the King Tut exhibit before it closes (the ONE exhibit I'm not down for seeing alone), to drink more water (clearance every 2 hours sounds ideal?), and to be more patient.

Softlips lip balm. I've been using it since I was in middle school!

Too many! I'd like to be a nicer person, definitely. You gain nothing by being mean! Next, I don't think I can change genetics to fix my horrible skin (>.<)

Guys with beards — hot or not?

Depends on the guy and his facial features. Sometimes a little five o'clock shadow is worthwhile if it looks good on him!

Just Aquaphor for now. I think it's going to be a REALLY lazy day, glasses included.

One thing you’re looking forward to this spring?

Seafoam green dressy tops! Khakis galore, shimmery gold/bronze eye shadow, fuschia lip gloss, my nephew's Baptism, all of it! I love fashion of all seasons because my coloring can pull off a broad range of shades, but I'm falling for seafoam green.

What’s one random thing you think you’re great at doing?

I can make up tricks for remembering pharmacology?

What’s your favorite eyeliner?

Jordana Easyliner in Lavish Brown! It's a cheapy at $2, but unlike typical drugstore liners which are dry and chalky, it's creamy and it shows up as an absolute black on my skin (none of that blue overcast I get with most black eyeliners). I don't even need to sharpen it, and it's widely available at Walgreens (aka, an easy 40-minute four-footer walking distance).

Outfit:

Navy UCLA hoodie over light jeans and my furry boots. Yes, I know it's sunny outside, it's still cold indoors!

Weekly goals:

Study more for NCLEX, be nicer, and work on that tummy I've been making! (Damn you, Honey Rider, and your narrow waist. I don't think my stocky/boyish Filipina body type can actually get that svelte, or washboard flat chest be buxom!)

Pretty good. I've had a great weekend with Eric and family! I'm still euphoric from a report of his mother and aunt liking me from the night at the movies, a relaxing Sunday night cozying-up during Planet Earth, and a sweet dinner send-off from his mother. I love his mother, she's so sweet!

Daly City, also known as "The Gateway to the Peninsula." Immediately south of San Francisco, this predominantly Filipino neighborhood sees fog everyday, jokingly because "the Filipinas forget to turn off their rice pots."

Am I? My family and girlfriends goes to me to hook up their electronics and I've been programming for as long as I've been reading, so I suppose I am. I live on my phone, miss the 360, and have nothing less than product loyalty for Apple!

How do you feel about drugstore makeup?

Drugstore makeup has its strengths. The L'Oreal HiP eye shadow line is phenomenal--the pigmentation, the color choices, the packaging, and it doesn't irritate my sensitive skin! The regular L'Oreal line is great, too. Because of the necessary turnover for mascara (3-month viability!), I love going to the drugstore to try out the different mascaras available. I love the Jordana automatic pencil in , because it shows up on my skin as an actual absolute black (no blues!), and it doesn't require sharpening. I like to save by going drugstore for powder/pencil/mascara products, and department store for cream, color-matching products.

5 Ways to Enjoy Pan De Sal (or Pan De Leche)

As a person of Philippine descent, I grew up with a soft, moist, and very small dinner roll called Pan de Sal. Even in the Philippines, I looked forward to my daily routine of getting up in time to catch up to the boy that sold it in the morning, though it isn't as moist as it is here. I love its ready availability in the immediate Bay Area, and I can't imagine living without it--it'll be a nightmare trying to find ready-made dinner rolls to mimic the feel of it! Here are my favorite ways to eat it:

Traditional: with sardines

5. As a slider, with chopped onions and a thin ground beef patty (or just cook lumpia meat into a thin patty?)

4. Turkey sandwich (smoked turkey deli meat, American cheese, and mayonnaise)

3. With ice cream (ideally, ube [purple yam] and/or macapuno [soft young coconut], though chocolate, mocha, and cookies n cream still work)

2. With Nutella, maybe add thin banana slices

1. Put in some butter and microwave it for half a minute.

Something you’d like to improve about yourself in 2010?

I want to be a nicer, more patient, less judgmental person, and to smell as sweet as I'd become (vanilla frosting minus skin irritation is the goal)

I'm not thrilled about the midriff galore, but I do love my Auntie Mercy's fashion--I remember her in a black ribbed turtle neck over a long, flowy water-color flower on black chiffon skirt. I LOVE how guys wear the knit sweater loose, and how it drapes on the masculine physique! (Old boyband videos on youTube, .::sigh:::.)

Relax from school, by far! Brian will return home for break, so I'll spend some time with him. Cooking and some drinks at Ena's, a quiet Christmas at home, and, if I'm lucky, a New Year's kiss (from the newest crush)!

Three bits of hard-learned makeup advice:

1) Black lip look went trendy AFTER I rocked it in HS (what's next? Leather moto jackets and combats boots? Oh, wait...)

2) Primer helps eyeliner stay-put better when set with matching eyeshadow powder

3) No such thing as absolute black liner (due to the yellow-undertones in my skin, which brings out the blue in "black" liners), so veer toward dark brown-almost-black liners

Ingredients:

-ground beef - 1 lb

-3 big cloves of garlic, chopped

-1/4 yellow onion, chopped

-2-3 table spoons of spicy kimchi

-fresh ramen noodles (think, shiru-soba if you have the option) with flavor packet

-1 cup white rice, cooked or left-over/cold (jasmine or short-grain, either or)

-vegetable oil, or any oil

-salt/black pepper to taste

Procedure:

1. Heat 3 tablespoons of oil over moderate-high heat.

2. When the oil is hot enough to mildly sizzle a small piece of onion, add the onions/garlic. Stir for a couple of minutes, just enough to draw out some moisture. Sprinkle some black pepper.

3. Set onions/garlic to side of pan. Raise heat to high. Add ground beef, and brown it. Also sprinkle some black pepper (I used, roughly, a teaspoon's worth, total).

4. Once ground beef has been browned, add kimchi. Stir around for 1 minute, just before kimchi start losing its red color/coating.

5. On medium (or medium-low), add noodles, drip water as needed to loosen noodles.

6. After the noodles are loosened and coated in oils of food, add rice.

7. Once rice has been distributed and softened, add noodle flavor packet. Stir evenly.

8. Serve in flat plate, and enjoy!

Beau Nelson's Smoky Eyes

1. Line top lashline with thick black eye pencil.
2. Using a smudge brush, blend the black liner. Set newly-smudged line with the dark (black) shadow.
3. Using a fat paddle brush, press the medium (dark grey) shadow on the whole eyelid until right before the crease.
4. Using a blender brush, blend the light (medium grey) shadow into the crease.
5. Using the smudge brush, take mix the medium (dark grey) shadow with the light (medium grey) shadow. Line the outer half with the brush at an almost vertical angle, and the inner half with the brush horizontal. Also dot into the inner corner of the eye.
6. Line your conjuctiva with black eye pencil.
7. Finish with curled lashes and apply mascara.
